What Makes A Good Leader and How is Personal Development Key?

Personal Development includes helping others

I have been ask many times “What should I look for in a sponsor,” so I wanted to share my thoughts.

The answer is great leadership – John Maxwell calls it the 5 levels of leadership. Find a sponsor who has or is climbing quickly through these levels. One that has or is mastering their personal development.

Level One– Position. The higher the sponsor ranks the more likely you will take direction because you will feel you have to. This is a good motivational tool for you. Some MLM’s use 3rd party calls to achieve this which works well as it connects you with your leadership Upline.

Level Two – Permission. This is about relationships. A sponsor that creates a fun and meaningful relationship within their team will have their team members willingness to follow.

Level Three – Production. Sponsors who have shown success will give confidence to those who want the same. Team members will follow the lead of what they see their sponsor is doing. Sponsors leading by example.

Level Four – People Development. Sponsors who have created other leaders within their team have shown other team members what is possible. This creates momentum and positive actions of following.

Level Five – Personhood. This relates to respect. Sponsors are followed because they are respected because they have shown and continue to show who they are and what they represent. This is the highest level of leadership and commands the most influence.

We all have heard the saying “Follow the Leader” now you know why. Remember it is okay to be a copy cat as long as you copy the “right cat”. Find yourself a great leader and become the best leader you can be and work on your personal development every day.

I hope you found value in this post. I recommend reading “Developing the Leader Within You” by John C Maxwell. It is a fast read and very informative.
